In our culture, full attractive lips are often regarded as a sign of beauty and good health. As we age, the lips often appear thinner. Thus, lip enlargement augmentation is frequently performed by Dr. Davidson

This 18 yr. old college student desired her upper lip to be fuller than her lower lip. Using an original technique developed by Dr. Davidson, only the upper lip was augmented.

Several techniques are available for lip enlargement. Currently the two options which Dr. Davidson uses in his practice are:

1.Collagen ( Zyplast) This office procedure takes only a few minutes and often results in minimal or no bruising. Most people look presentable in a few hours and the improvement is immediate. Unfortunately, Zyplast Collagen does not last as long in the lips as it does in the creases between the lips and cheeks ( nasolabial creases). Despite this limitation, many women prefer this relatively brief procedure to surgery.

2. The surgical procedure used most often in Dr. Davidson's practice is the placement of Alloderm under the red part of the lip (vermillion), through small incisions near the corners of the mouth. These incisions usually heal quickly, leaving faint scars which are typically difficult to find. Alloderm is human skin from which the surface has been removed. After testing and chemical treatment it is freeze dried until it is used. More bruising and swelling is expected after lip enlargement with Alloderm but the results are longer lasting. Unlike Zyplast collagen, a skin test for allergy is not necessary with this product.
