In
men, fat tends to accumulate in the abdomen, waist,
and breasts. All of these areas can be treated through
small, inconspicuous incisions. Typically, all areas
having excess fat can be removed in a single procedure,
even if multiple areas are treated. Most men can
return to work within a week. The best candidates
for liposuction are in good general health, are
of relatively normal weight, and have firm, elastic
skin.

Doctors believe that adults have a fixed or constant
number of fat cells in their bodies. Because liposuction
permanently reduces the number of fat cells in the
areas which have been treated, the improvement is
permanent, provided that a stable weight is maintained.
