Tummy
tuck or abdominoplasty is a procedure designed to:
- Remove
excess abdominal skin.
- Contour
or remove excess abdominal fat
- Tighten
and support the stretched or weakened abdominal
muscles, especially after pregnancies.

A
mini abdominoplasty is one in which the abdominal
scar is kept very short. It may be appropriate if
your main problem is lax muscle tone and/or excess
fat. The trade off is that the shorter the incision,
the less skin which can be removed. If you have
a lot of excess fat present under the abdominal
skin, Dr. Davidson may recommend weight reduction
or liposuction as a first step. Tummy tucks may
be deferred until the amount of abdominal fat is
reduced to an acceptable amount.
Extended
abdominoplasty or lower body lift may be performed
for people who have lost a significant amount of
weight. In this case a longer than average incision
may be necessary.
Dr.
Davidson may discourage you from undergoing a tummy
tuck if you are planning to have additional children
in the near future.
