Ultrasonic
Liposuction (UAL) for Men and Women
When
performing body contouring procedures, Dr. Davidson
frequently uses ultrasonic liposuction as part of
the procedure. Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction (UAL)
is a relatively new technique which uses sound waves
to liquefy excess fat, which is then removed by
traditional liposuction. UAL is particularly helpful
for contouring fibrous areas of the body, such as
the waist, back or male breast area. UAL has the
advantage that fat can be removed with very little
blood loss, making possible removal of larger volumes
at a single procedure. As part of your consultation
visit, the pros and cons of UAL will be discussed
with you in detail.
The
best candidates for UAL are the same as for traditional
liposuction (not significantly overweight, good
skin tone and elasticity, good overall health and
areas of fat which are localized). As with traditional
liposuction, tumescent infiltration is used to prepare
the tissues and to minimize bruising and swelling.
The
availability of full hospital facilities with a
staff of Board Certified anesthesiologists provides
the safest facilities for liposuction and body contouring.
Dr. Davidson has arranged for all-inclusive reduced
fee packages.
Although
UAL has only been in use in the United States for
four to five years, it has been used successfully
in Europe for more than ten years, and was first
published in medical journals in 1991. To date,
there is no evidence that UAL results in unforeseen
adverse effects. In the U.S., long-term studies
are continuing to further evaluate this issue.
